Transformational giftsupports Lynn University Conservatory of Music, scholarships and learning spaces

BOCA RATON, Fla. --(BUSINESS WIRE)

Lynn University is proud to announce a generous gift exceeding $1 million from longtime supporters Mark and Marilyn Swillinger, reinforcing a deep commitment to the university's mission in education, music and community enrichment. The endowment supports numerous campus initiatives and solidifies a legacy of compassion, leadership and lifelong dedication to the arts and learning.

The Swillingers' latest gift provides:

  • Student practice rooms, faculty studios, the Dean's suite and a classroom in the Lynn University Conservatory of Music
  • A terrace garden at the Keith C. and Elaine Johnson Wold Performing Arts Center
  • A classroom in the Mohammed Indimi International Business Center
  • A student resource space and administrative suite in the Institute for Achievement and Learning

"This gift is for the benefit of the university, and for the memory of my beloved wife, Marilyn," said Mark Swillinger, a retired immigration attorney and dedicated philanthropist. "She gave herself unconditionally to every organization and person she touched, and this gift honors that spirit by supporting students, educators and the broader Lynn community."

Mark and Marilyn Swillinger moved from Chicago to Florida in 2002, immediately immersing themselves in the university and the regional philanthropic community. Marilyn, an accomplished businesswoman and founder of a global leadership development firm, served as president of Lynn University Friends of the Conservatory of Music Board for four years and was a tireless advocate for the arts and education.

“Marilyn always believed that Lynn represented more than just music," said Swillinger. "It was about education, empowerment and excellence—across all disciplines."

"This generous gift is a great example of how influential donors are able to enhance the student experience in meaningful ways throughout the university," said Vice President for Enrollment and University Advancement Gareth P. Fowles. "Marilyn had a magnetic ability to bring people into her circle. I think when people hear and understand what this gift entails, it will also encourage them to want to join us."

A fixture at Philharmonia concerts, holiday events, and the Friends of the Conservatory of Music Friendship Tea, Marilyn was known for bringing entire tables of guests to experience the university she loved so dearly. As Mark fondly recalled, "The tables were for 10, but we had to get 15 chairs—because she brought that many people to Lynn. Everyone had to experience it."

The scholarships supported by this gift are designed to benefit students who embody the values Marilyn held dear: dedication to learning, artistic excellence and community leadership.

"These donations will help memorialize her name in perpetuity. It's our wish that others will be inspired by this gift and follow suit," said Swillinger. "The opportunity to support Lynn University is not just about giving—it's about creating a legacy that uplifts people for generations to come."
